Why We Should Make New Year Resolutions
61New Year Resolutions
There are many conversations about New Year Resolutions but the most common, in my eyes (or ears), are people discussing their excitement about their resolutions or people discussing why they never make resolutions. Every year I make New Year Resolutions because I am Big Miss Goal Setter. "Never Ending Goal Setting, is the way to go," I always say. If we do not set goals we become in the constant state of going nowhere. Sound familiar?
The constant state of going nowhere is when you are doing the same ole thing every day. In the morning, you get up, get ready for work, go to work, get home, eat dinner, maybe watch some tv, and then go to bed to do the same thing over and over again. A good question to ask yourself, in order to know if you are in the constant state of going nowhere, is, "What was I doing 5 years ago? Or ten years ago?" If your answer is, "What I am doing now," then you may be in the constant state of going nowhere.
We are either never ending goal setting or in the constant state of going nowhere.
What will never ending goal setting get you? If you are a big dreamer then you will become closer and closer to your dream and eventually obtain your dream.
What will being in the constant state of going nowhere get you? Well, the same ole life or less.
Goals, or resolutions, can be big or small. Either way you are moving forward. Maybe you would like to quit smoking. Maybe you would like to loose weight. Maybe you would like to make more money. Maybe you would like to destress yourself. Maybe you would like to be more patient and manage your anger.
What ever it is that we would like to accomplish, we are totally capable. The first thing we need to do is take responsibility for our life. Take responsibility for your future, your health, your finances, and/or your happiness.
How do we take responsiblity? By never ending goal setting. Start with your New Year Resolutions. Set some (or one) goals and move forward.
First, set a goal. Second, write it down. When you write it down be specific on what you want and by when. For example, if you would like to loose weight maybe you would like to loose 30 pounds (what you want) by June 1, 2009 (when). Third, write all the things you will do to obtain this goal, kind of like your rules. Fourth, read your goal and rules morning, noon, and night, in order to remind yourself that you are taking responsibility for your life and how you are doing so. Finally, have an attitude of faith. Believe that you will obtain your goal. If you have an attitude of, "I have tried this so many times before and have been unsuccessful, there is no way I can accomplish this goal," then believe me, you will not accomplish it. Believe in yourself and have an attitude of, "I am doing this!" Never give up!
Make some New Year Resolutions today, take responsibility for your life, and watch yourself move forward, closer and closer to your dream. In one year, you can be closer to your goal, or not. In 5 years, you can be closer to your dream, or not. I say, "Do it! Do it Now!" and get closer and closer to your dreams. Don't forget to have fun and be playful, because it is in your nature.
